Veterans Day holds a special place in my heart as it should for all Americans. My dad (Peter Misuraca) was in World War II. He didn't talk about it through his life, and it wasn't till he died that we found a gold medal, and many others as well!

In the war, he carried men across land mines for miles to safety. He was a medic in World War II…. so I can only imagine how much he had seen.

I was about 16 years of age when I fell off a bike and cut my leg on the spoke… My dad told my mom to pour peroxide on it and have me see the school nurse in the morning… As he did have five children, so maybe he was trying to save money. He may have also been thinking, “I’ve seen much worse than that! She’ll live!!”

The nurse had told me to go to the doctor you need stitches. My mother said ,”she stopped counting at 13 “so I don't know how many stitches I got, but it seems it was nothing compared to what my dad saw in World War II.

My Dad was my favorite Veteran, and an amazing man. Nothing rattled him. His biggest joy was spending time with family, friends, and of course, having a great meal.
