According to the
Gregorian calendar, July is the seventh month. On the Roman calendar, it
was the fifth month and it was called 'Quintiles', meaning 'fifth'.
Julius Caesar gave the month 31 days in 46 B.C. The Roman Senate named
it 'Julius', in honor of Caesar.
July is usually the hottest
month of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. July is one of the winter
months in the Southern Hemisphere. The climate is mild in most of the
Southern Hemisphere, with the exception of the COLD Antarctica, and the cold, rainy
part of South America.
During July, when there
isn't much rain, the grass often loses it's greenness. Some flowers are
abundant in July, because they strive on the heat. Also, insects are
abundant as well - life is striving in July!

August is the eighth
month, renamed by the Romans from Sextilis', meaning sixth, to
honor their emperor, Augustus.
August is the height of
the summer time in the temperate zone of the Northern Hemisphere. The
longest days of the year is passed, but the hot days remain. In the
northern regions and mountains, cool nights and early frosts lets one
know that the summer is about to come to an end. In the Southern
Hemisphere, August means the winter will soon be over.
The birds are already
planning to fly south for the winter. The insects are more noisier and
numerous than in any other month. This is perhaps the busiest month
for businesses, since most people take their vacations in August.
