Bob McCarty was a Detroit cop, a husband, and a father of eight boys, so I don't think he had much time for music. But I fondly remember driving in the car with Dad when 1959' s "Shimmy, Shimmy, Ko-Ko-Bop" came on. His fingers would tap the steering wheel, and occasionally he'd sing or hum the chorus. Years later, when a remake of "Yesterday" came on the car radio, Dad told me something along the lines of, "Now, that's music." When I told him The Beatles did the original, I don't think he believed me.
The oldies stations rarely play "Shimmy, Shimmy, Ko-Ko-Bop," but when I hear that song, I think of Dad.
Thanks, Little Anthony and Big Bob.
