Yours truly is also into traditional Irish music, and I’ve been having some informal jams with a Celtic fiddler and his wife, who can play the boron, tin whistle and piano (although not at the same time). I provide guitar accompaniment. Earlier this year, we played some jigs and reels in Karen’s church, Immanuel Lutheran in Grand Rapids. And we played a return engagement the last Sunday in August, doing slides (12/8 time). Great fun. Here are three of the tunes on our playlist, as performed by a group of players in a bedroom.

Bluegrass at FallFest
I know this falls the same weekend as the Irish fest, but if like good bluegrass, you must drop in on FallFest 2010 at the fairgrounds in Lowell, Mich. Several bands, including Rick Prater & The Midnight Travelers, the Williams Family, Cedar Ridge, Jonas Ridge, Deadwood and Free Wheelin’, will be there.
