When it comes to scary music, the best songs fill me with suspense and dread, and maybe send a shiver up the back of my neck. My top three are from hit movies:
1. (tie) Halloween
Theme: This one conjures up Michael Myers and mayhem to come.
1. (tie) Psycho Theme: When I hear that crazed music, I think of the shower scene and the crazy guy in the dress.
3. Jaws Theme: This famous score took a shark to the next level on the dread-o-meter.
Here are my also-ran Halloween tunes. These don’t cause me to shudder, but it wouldn’t be Halloween without
The Munsters Theme, The Addams Family Theme, Jacko’s
Thriller, Werewolves of London, Nighmare on Elm Street and
Monster Mash.
SPECIAL RECOGNITION: Growing up, the McCarty brothers were scared silly by back-to-back shows
The Twilight Zone and Alfred Hitchcock Presents. Their theme songs got us on the edge of our seats. After one Hitchcock show, we went to bed, and D.J. later awoke, looked at my bunk and said, “Michael, you don’t have any skin!”
