.
Hello Metro family and
friends! I hope your spring is going well. With the pandemic still ongoing,
hopefully you are like me and seeing some light at the end of the tunnel.
Margaret and I got vaccinated, and are feeling better
about getting out of the Metro HQ and going out and
enjoying a retiree's life.

In February, Margaret and I took a nice day trip to Mackinac City to see the blue ice that had formed on Lake Huron. As we walked out on the frozen lake, we saw some pretty amazing ice formations. It was a nice trip, but we were disappointed that our Ponderosa Steak House in
West Branch, Michigan had closed up. I don't think there are any more in the
state, and I will miss the wings and Texas Toast.
In March, I
hopped in my automobile and took a solo car trip down to Florida to meet my brothers at Steve's place. It was a great week, and we had a lot of
fun enjoying the weather, gambling, watching preseason
baseball, America roadside attractions, laughing it up
with my bros, and of course, the grouper sandwiches.
I am looking forward to the 10th annual McCarty Metro film contest which will take place from May 20-31. That means you will have a full week, and 2 weekends to film. I hope you all consider making a film this year. If you want to get a little bit of a 'heads up' on the competition, here is
a link back to the film
project page information before the the specific rules come out on May 20.

After a year off because of COVID, Gull Lake XXXVII is
back on the schedule for May 26-28. Kelly and Steve are in the field of 12 players. Ben Toner is first alternate. Hoping for good weather and good times with some old friends that I have known for 40 years.
With summer on the doorstep, it also means travel time. Remember, if you have any vacation plans,
remember to submit some of your good times you had with a quick article and pictures for the Metro. Margaret and I are preparing for a trip
out to Oregon to see Chris, Amanda, Alexa, and Cooper. We
couldn't go last year because of COVID, and video chats
just can't replace a hug. Of course there will be full reports and pictures right here in
an upcoming edition of the McCarty Metro.
My Final Thought I wish to leave you
is a video of professional wrestler Marc Mero (AKA Johnny
B. Badd) who is talking about his mom in a Mother's Day
speech in front of students. This Mother's Day and
Father's Day, make sure to thank your parents for all the love
they gave and all the sacrifices they made to help shape
you into the person you are today. If they are no longer
with us, remember them fondly for the special people they
were.
If
you still receive both of these calls, you are the
luckiest person in the world! Happy
Mother's Day, and Happy Father's Day!
