NEW ADDITION TO THE FAMILY
Andrew
Charles Brookfield was welcomed into the world on April
17. Proud parents Rob and Sara, and big brother Bobby are ecstatic.
Andrew's length was 19 inches, and weighed in at 7 pounds,
3 ounces. Congratulations to the Brookfields, and Grandpa
Larry and Grandma Gina on the newest McCarty family
member.
DATELINE:
BALTIMORE, MARYLAND
Andy
McCarty was honored by his Baltimore police department
with an award for his courage, bravery, and self control.
Here is the official proclamation...
Office
Andrew McCarty observed several people in the area arguing
with another man whom Office McCarty recognized from an
earlier shooting. Office McCarty saw the black handle of a
firearm protruding from the man's waistband and appeared
as though he was going to withdraw it. Office McCarty
walked up behind the man, withdrew his weapon, and ordered
the man to comply with his orders. Officer McCarty
recovered the firearm and placed the man under arrest.
Wife
Ann posted on FB... "For the last 18 years, along
with many of you, I have been amazed, and entertained by
all of the adventures that Andy has had. It was a great
honor tonight, to watch him receive an award for his
courage, his bravery, and self control. Thank you to him,
and all of the other officers that serve each and
everyday. Love you Andy. We are so proud of you. Thank
you!
Proud
father Mike says "That boy looks good in that uni!"
He

McCARTY METRO MARCH MADNESS
The McCarty
Metro had a March Madness basketball challenge in March.
As soon as the field of 68 Division 1 college teams were
chosen, Metro subscribers received an email to fill out
their brackets. We saw 15 subscribers take the challenge.
The winner of our bracket was in doubt all the way until
the final buzzer of the championship game. Congratulations
to North Carolina on their NCAA Championship, and congrats
to Metro subscribers James and Ben Stonecipher who won our
challenge. Thank you to everyone that played, and
thanks especially to my son Chris who did all the setup of
the McCarty Metro bracket. Great job all!

DATELINE: REDFORD,
MICHIGAN
Much
to the chagrin of his wife, Brad McCarty finally
went out and purchased his first minivan. Brad
reports... "I had been wrestling between SUV
and Minivan for a few weeks now, either would have
been a huge size upgrade over our current Prius C.
In the end, I found a great deal on the Kia
Sedona. All of the extra space for the family, the
dog, and our infinite “stuff” is why I needed
this van. The girls will love it for being a fort
on wheels. Even Valerie has to appreciate the
ability to transport home improvement items bigger
than a hammer from the store. And everyone will
appreciate the space once we embark on our
Massachusetts trip this summer. The only drawback
seems to be the MPG, but you’ve got to take the
good with the bad, and it’s just something
I’ll have to get used to."

LAKE XXX3
Gull
Lake 33 will be played at the end of May in Augusta,
Michigan. The event was started in 1985 with Rick McCarty
and Kelly McCarty. This year, your editor is the only
McCarty in the field. Several subscribers are playing as
well. Good luck to Kelly and all the golfers. Hoping for
nice weather and low scores.

Dear
Editor: Thanks for allowing us to participate in the
McCarty Metro NCAA Tournament picks. My son James (13)
helped me to compare data for each team in making our
picks. Still a crap shoot, but lots of fun. We are looking
forward to the fall football (Pigskin Pickem) season. -
Ben
ED NOTE: This is
another great reason to subscribe to the Metro. My son Chris put
this tournament together just before tournament time, and I sent
out a special email to our subscribers to participate. Although I
don't follow college basketball, it made it fun to check the
standings after each round. Congrats
on the 'W' Ben.
Dear Editor: I
enjoyed reading "Gene's Story" in the March Edition.
Although I am not a McCarty, I know how important family is and it
is cool to see you guys embracing Gene as part of your
family. I enjoy reading the McCarty Metro every month and look
forward to more stories about Gene. -Tom
ED
NOTE: Thanks Tom. We come from a large family and our
parents brought us up right. I am one of 8 boys, and we

the McCarty clan. And... Like you... I am looking to more
stories about Gene as well.
We
appreciate our McCarty Metro readers and always want to hear your questions, comments, rants,

WE
ALSO FONDLY REMEMBER FROM OUR METRO FAMILY...
Augusta P. Sims
9/26/26 - 3/7/17
Augusta Page Sims, 90, passed peacefully in her home on March 7, 2017.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Byrl Loren Sims, her parents, Ralph and Versa Page, and her sister Barbara (Page) Trichler. She is survived by her four children, Loren Page Sims (Birdy), Laura Sims Bain (Ron), Linden Kyle Sims (Amy), and Leslie Ruth Sims. Augusta was born on September 26,1926, in (McCleansboro) IL. At age 15 she graduated high school and entered University of Louisville, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1945. She then earned a Master of Religious Education from Women’s Missionary Union Training School in Louisville in 1947, where she taught Bible for a year before earning a Masters Degree in Speech from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois in 1950. After graduation she taught Bible and served as the Associate Dean of Women at Bethel Woman’s College in Hopkinsville, Ky. She earned a second Masters Degree in Speech Therapy from Southern Illinois University in 1953. There she met and married Byrl Sims. They resided in Los Angeles, California, Champaign, Illinois, and for 35 years in Columbus Ohio, before moving to Marengo 10 years ago. Augusta was a Speech Therapist for Delaware County Ohio from 1969 to 1988, working in Olentangy, Big Walnut and Buckeye Valley schools. Her ninety years on earth were spent learning, loving and giving. Children were her passion and where she derived her greatest enjoyment. Whether she was teaching in the schools or in church, providing childcare, or spending time with grandchildren, she was a mother to every child she met. Augusta was passionate about helping others and generously gave to many individuals and organizations. If you would like to do something in Augusta’s memory she suggested a donation to the Salvation Army or a local food bank, or another charity of your choosing.
Services were held privately by the family.
