DATELINE: BEND, OREGON
Chris & Amanda McCarty introduced Alexa Lily McCarty into the world on March 29th at 12:34AM PST. She weighed in at 7lbs. 5oz., and 21” long. Alexa is the first child of Chris and Amanda, and the first grandchild of Kelly & Margaret.

DATELINE: WEDDIN' BELLS
Hey Everyone ... Lauren McCarty and Aaron Staggs have set their wedding date. The happy couple will be married on June 18, 2011. The Metro understands that the date is coming up soon and will be here in no time. Aaron is in the Marines and they were planning a September wedding, but his commander notified him that September would not work and he would be home for two weeks in June, before going to flight school in Florida. Their choice was to get married in June or wait another 1 1/2 years ... so they have decided on a June 18, 2011 wedding. More details will be coming soon.

DATELINE: BIGGEST LOSER CHALLENGE
Your editor, who tipped the scales on February 27, 2011 at 287 pounds would like to challenge other Metro readers to a BIGGEST LOSER CHALLENGE. My ultimate goal by the end of the year is to lose 30% of my weight or 87 pounds. I joined The Biggest Loser Club http://www.biggestloserclub.com to help aid in my quest. Metro reporter Mike McCarty underwent emergency gall bladder surgery on April 27th to remove stones. Wife Karen got the good news/bad news from the surgeon. Good news.... Surgery went fine. Bad News... Mike still insists on playing the banjo.

The nursery rhyme Ring Around the Rosey is a rhyme about the plague. After exhaustive research, I have added my grandparents to the chart. And I changed the colors in all the boxes. Whew! I’m bushed!

Although the Bad Boys Home is still stonewalling my research, sources tell me that there may have been more than eight McCarty boys, and that one of them may have been called “Boy.” Given the McCarty nicknaming penchant – adding an “O” to everyone’s name – that would explain one of Bob McCarty’s lines when he came home from work: “Boy-o boy, am I bushed!” Boy also may have had another nickname, as in the sentence: “Hoo-boy, am I bushed.”

If I can get the Metro to finance a trip to Belgium, I will dig deeper.

AND FINALLY...

CANADIAN SPEED CONTROLS
Speed controls being used in Canada. How's this for effective speed control? I don't know about you, but this would certainly slow me down! People slow down and actually try to "straddle" the hole. This is an actual speed control device that is currently in use. It is MUCH cheaper than speed cameras, radar guns, police officers, etc. Pretty clever - especially when they move them around every day. Isn't art wonderful?
