BEND, OREGON
A baby shower was held for
Amanda Westfall-McCarty on Saturday, February 12 in Bend. In attendance
were many of Amanda's relatives and friends, and making the cross country
trip were future grandparents Kelly & Margaret. Baby Girl McCarty received lots of great
gifts. The blessed event is due late March.

ST. PATRICK'S DAY REVENGE?
Kelly stopped by Mom's
apartment on Valentine's Day morning with 5 O'Henry candy
bars, however, when Jean McCarty went to St. Michael's to
put a few hours of work in on that day, she was not
prepared for what was about to happen. The
"friendly" feud between Jean and Father Mike
took a turn in his favor as he had everyone at the church
come into Jean's office with a fistful of O'Henry and
Payday candy bars. Father could be heard laughing in the
hallways at each visit. Jean ended up with a box full o' candy, probably enough to last the year. Jean says she
will take out her revenge on the Irish priest on St.
Patrick's Day. She wouldn't elaborate, but said she will
need green construction paper, a magic marker and a big
safety pin. |

drinking, talking and laughing. The event is the first of 2 DMGC events
held annually. The second is the June DMGC Golf outing. The events are
held by the Lupus Alliance of Michigan and sponsored by the McCarty family
and attorney J.B. Bieske. Thanks to Chuck
Pottenger, the entire Lupus staff, and everyone else for making the
McCarty Party a great time.

MEDICAL TEAM
Here is some free medical advice from
Dr. Pottenger. If you can't afford a doctor, go to an airport -
you'll get a free x-ray and a breast exam, and; if you mention Al
Qaeda, you'll get a free colonoscopy.
By Mike McCarty
After exhaustive research, I thought I would share the McCarty Family Tree that I have compiled. I think this tree will eventually trace to somewhere in Europe, probably Ireland (Happy St. Patrick’s Day), Germany, Belgium and possibly a cave in Sicily. On second thought, never mind that latter reference. It belonged to La Beastia, a Detroit area wrestler.
Anyway, Bob and Jean McCarty had eight boys. I believe there may have been a ninth McCarty sibling named Leroy – and maybe more, but I cannot prove it. That’s because The Bad Boys Home is fighting my Freedom of Information Act requests.
Note the similarity in nicknames. When people saw a McCarty coming, they said, “Oh, no!” We would politely inform them that the “oh” goes on the back end of a McCarty nickname, and there were no McCartys named “No” … that we know of.
Watch this space for updates in the McCarty Family Tree. Next month, I may try to change the colors in the name boxes.

REAL
NEWS |
How to Cast
a Critical Eye on Consumer Reviews
One of the great
tools you can find online are reviews by actual consumers of
products or services they have used. The trouble is review sites
can be littered with phony reviews posted by the company itself,
by competitors, or by vindictive or misguided consumers. Here are
some tips
to navigate reviews to separate valuable ones from the planted
ones.
Penny
Auctions: Deal of a Lifetime or Gambling Disguised as a Deal?
Have you seen the
ads for so-called penny auctions? They seemingly promise deals of
lifetime, typically 90% or more off retail prices, like a 32"
Panasonic LCD TV for $21.04, or an Apple iPad for $57.18. The
catch is they charge you about 60 cents for each bid you place
(which raises the previous bid by only a penny). So for the
company that seemingly sold an iPad for just $57.18, they actually
raked in 60 cents times 5,718 bids or $3,430 for a $599 iPad. That
is some profit. The trouble is, isn't this really more
like gambling, where you pay 60 cents for each chance to win a
90% off deal?
Post a
Negative Review, Get Threatened with a Lawsuit
This the story of a
consumer
who posted a negative review about an online appliance store,
and instead of offering to fix the problem, the retailer
threatened to sue the consumer for criminal libel. |
BABY
CARROTS |
|
The
small baby carrots you buy in small plastic bags are made
using the larger crooked or deformed carrots which are put
through a machine which cuts and shapes them into cocktail
carrots - most people probably know this already.
What you may not know and should know is the following:
Once the carrots are cut and shaped into baby carrots they
are dipped in a solution of water and chlorine in order to
preserve them (this is the same chlorine used in your
pool). Since they do not have their skin or natural
protective covering, they give them a higher dose of
chlorine.
You
will notice that once you keep these carrots in your
refrigerator for a few days, a white covering will form on
the carrots. This is the chlorine which resurfaces. At
what cost do we put our health at risk to have
esthetically pleasing vegetables?
Chlorine is a very well-known carcinogen, which causes
Cancer. I thought this was worth passing on. Pass it
on to as many people as possible in hopes of informing
them where these carrots come from and how they are
processed. I used to buy those baby carrots for vegetable
dips. I know that I will never buy them again!!!! |

Frank Woodruff Buckles (February 1, 1901 – February 27, 2011), born Wood
Buckles, was one of the last three surviving World War I veterans in the world, and was the last living American veteran of the
war. At the time of his death, Buckles was also the oldest verified World War I veteran in the world, and the second-oldest male military veteran in the
world. Although not in the military at the time, Buckles spent the majority of World War II as a prisoner of war. After the world wars, he lived at Gap View Farm, in Charles Town, West Virginia, and was the Honorary Chairman of the World War I Memorial Foundation.
