Austin and I went to Ft. Lauderdale for a few days. There is a direct flight from DTW, and we used Turo to rent a car. We had one day of sunshine but then rain the rest of the days. We still had a great time! We drove to Miami one afternoon, tried various restaurants around Ft. Lauderdale and went to an art museum. Here are some recs from us:

We recommend staying off of the beach for meals, we had better luck a few blocks into Ft. Lauderdale in terms of food. But for some great deals on drinks, then definitely try the bars right on the beach.
