Texas Holdem charity fundraiser took place on February 7th
at Petruzzello's Banquet Center in Rochester,
Michigan. The event was another huge success. Thank you to Steve McCarty and the entire UHY Cares team who put forward this great event.
.
A word from UHY CEO Steve McCarty:
"Our
14th annual Texas Hold 'Em tournament in memory of
my brother Danny was the best yet! We had nearly 200
poker players, lots of spectators, and generous
sponsors raising over $35,000 for many families in
need and local charities. Congratulations to Gregory
Benfatti who played hard to take home the coveted
poker bracelet & Jared Goff autographed Detroit
Lions helmet. At UHY LLP, Certified Public

Night In Tennessee
by Larry
Ray
Stevens is a name associated with the music
industry for over 60 years. When we heard that Ray
was planning to slow down and hold his final
season at the CabaRay Showroom in Nashville, TN
... we had to see this legendary 85 year old as he
started his farewell performance on Valentine's Day.
Many people recognize his novelty songs, such as
"The Streak", "Ahab the Arab",
"It's Me Again Margaret", "Gitarzan"
and many more; but he also wrote and performed
mainstream hits, such as "Everything is
Beautiful".
During
Ray's show, he recapped his years in the industry,
the stars he met, the travels he took, and even
the bad decisions he made. One was turning down
singing the song "Raindrops Keep Falling on
My Head" for the movie "Butch Cassidy
and the Sundance Kid". Ray went to Hollywood
and turned down the opportunity because he was
focused on recording some songs written by Kris
Kristofferson, which didn't result in huge sales.
Ray
will hold most of his shows on Saturdays beginning
on March 16th. If you find yourself in Nashville,
be sure to catch one of his farewell performances. Also,
with election
season coming up, I'll close this article with a
few great lyrics from one of Ray's songs
"Grandpa Voted Democrat"!
Grandpa
voted Democrat
Our family ain’t proud of that
Some how he cast it
From inside his casket
Well, they had em’ a good turn out, from

Blast From The Past Story
When
Wayne Gretzky Played With Gordie Howe
”That
same year (1979), after the regular
season, we played together in the WHA
All-Star game against the Moscow Dynamo.
There was this one Soviet who wouldn’t
stop hooking and chopping at me. I
didn’t know what to do about it, so
Gordie said, ”The next time down the
ice, when you see him coming, flush him
off to the right and get the hell out the
way.” So that’s what I did and when I
looked back, the Soviet was laying flat on
his butt, half out of it. Whatever Gordie
did, I’m glad I didn’t have to watch
it.” -Wayne Gretzky.

Pigskin Pickem Winner
Well,
Super Bowl 58 was played and I am pretty sure if the Lions
were in the game, they would have beat Kansas City. But...
the Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers in
overtime. Congrats to our season champion Globile Man who
started and ended the playoffs leading the pack. We had 54
players during the season, and 48 who qualified for the
playoffs. Thank you all for taking the last 5 months
playing along this year. I really appreciated it, and it's
nice to see we had more players every year. You can check
out the final standings on our Pickem page at http://www.mccartymetro.com/pickem.html

Dear Editor: Why don't kids today have to find their Easter basket? My parents hid mine, and it made me look harder for things. Fiddle
phooey! -Channeling Jerry's World in West Michigan
ED NOTE: I'm
in total agreement with you. As I get older, this has helped
me when I lose my keys, wondering why I walked into a room,
where I left Margaret, etc. I can usually find the answer
out after looking in the clothes dryer within an hour or so (unless someone gives me
clues!)
Dear Editor: I
hope you are feeling fit as a fiddle. I love the McCarty
Metro. Mostly the jokes and photos. Stickman question...
This was about 28 days in February. My calendar says 29.
Is it 28 days when it's leap year? I'm confused (and at my
age, it's a simple thing to do hahaha) ! Anyway, keep up
the good work under the basement steps. There sure a a lot of
McCartys. Love you! Hugs and prayers to you, Margaret, and
the whole family. -Kitty
ED NOTE: Thanks
Kitty. Glad you enjoy the Metro. Sorry about the 28 day
confusion in the Stickman cartoon last month. It could be
worse... Why, I remember that 2020 was an interesting leap
year… There was 29 days in February, 300 days in March
and 5 years in April. (Covid joke)
Dear Editor: I have an upcoming trip where I will be a passenger in a Chevy Trax. I looked up the features of this vehicle in "Car and Driver" and am a bit concerned over a few of their observations: "Sluggish engine, cheap-feeling interior", "Tediously slow for passing and merging", and "Only one engine is offered in the Trax, and it's not a great one". Should I be concerned? -Ready to Book SWA
ED NOTE: Are
you talking about the Trax, or me? I can pass and merge
while mall walking with the best of the senior citizens!
On the other hand, if you are talking about my Trax, I
don't need no fancy schmancy car. Here's a riddle...
What’s the difference between a Ferrari and six bags
full of trash? I don’t have a Ferrari in my garage. We
are going to have sooo much fun riding together with all
this humor.
Dear Editor: My TikTok following is not growing as rapidly as I had hoped. Currently, I have 212
followers and 1,494 likes. I'm concerned the Chinese have an algorithm to hold down my numbers because I performed an Asian
knock-knock joke. You've viewed my content, what are your thoughts? -Hop

Lentil
Salad with
Lemon Vinaigrette Dressing
A note
from Gina: I am submitting this Lentil Salad recipe that I had stumbled across a week ago. Larry and I liked it so much, I am making another batch today as I
share the recipe along with a finished photo.
Salad
Ingredients:
1
cup lentils
4 cups water 1 bay leaf 1 large cucumber (finely diced) ½ red onion (finely diced) 1 cup Medjool dates (finely diced) 1 small bunch flat leaf parsley
(leaves only and lightly chopped)
Vinaigrette
Ingredients:
1/3
cup olive oil 1/4 cup lemon juice 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard ½
teaspoon honey (or maple syrup) 1 garlic clove (minced) Salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
Cook the lentils: In a medium saucepan, add lentils, water and bay leaf. Bring to boil and reduce heat. Cover and simmer for approx. 15 minutes until lentils are soft, but not mushy.
Assemble the salad: Drain the lentils and chill them in the fridge for a few minutes.
Then, add the diced cucumber, red onion, dates, and parsley.
.
Add the dressing:
Combine all of the ingredients
for the lemon vinaigrette dressing in small bowl, whisk together
and pour the vinaigrette over the top of
the lentil salad and toss it all together. Chill in refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before
serving and enjoy!

MICHIGAN SCHOOLS
According to
Metro sources, a certain middle school in
Michigan recently was faced with a unique problem. A number of
12 to 13-year-old girls were beginning to use lipstick and would put it on in the bathroom. That was fine, but after they put on their lipstick they would press their lips to the mirror leaving dozens of little lip prints. Every night, the maintenance man would remove them and the next day, the girls would put them back. Finally the principal decided that something had to be done. She called all the girls to the bathroom and met them there with the maintenance man. She explained that all these lip prints were causing a major problem for the custodian who had to clean the mirrors every night. To demonstrate how difficult it had been to clean the mirrors, she asked the maintenance man to show the girls how much effort was required. He took out a long-handled squeegee, dipped it in the toilet, and cleaned the mirror with it. Since then, there have been no lip prints on the mirror.
