Hello Metro family and
friends! Thank you for stopping by and reading the McCarty Metro this month.

Although
the McCarty Metro has been in existence for over 58 years,
this month marks my 29th year as your editor. My first issue came out in
October 1992, and I want to thank all who have contributed
articles or other submissions over the years. A special
thanks to Mike who has contributed faithfully in every edition that has been put out over the
previous 28 years, to Jerry and DJ who also contributed
every month while they were here with us, and also a special thanks to m'lady, who has helped me edit every issue that has been put out (otherwise there would be too many mistakes and
maybe one too many potty jokes). Most importantly, I would
like to thank each of you for reading every month and for
showing your support and kind words each month. It is truly appreciated.
Our NFL Pigskin Pickem Game has started. If you still want in, you can go to the
Pickem Page and make your picks this week. It really is a fun way to keep the NFL games exciting to watch, and only takes 2 minutes a week.
Our 2022 McCarty Metro Las Vegas trip is scheduled for January 13-16. If
you are interested in going, let us know. We always have a great time out in Sin City. I, along with some others will get in on the 12th as airfare
from Detroit is usually lower on Wednesdays.

Don't
forget the McCarty Metro Chat Room which is available for
you to use right here on our site. I pay for it, so feel
free to use it if you want to meet with 1, or up to 100
people. It's really simple to use and works on any
internet browser. There is also an app for it called
Whereby. So, whether you want to video chat 1 on 1, with
family and friends, or just join our regular pre-scheduled
chats on Sunday, you got a place to do so.
Veteran's Day is November 11, and in honor of it, I would like everyone to thank a military veteran either active or retired. Also, give thanks and say a prayer for those
who have served, but are no longer with us. All those men and women are
true heroes, and unfortunately, far too many will say otherwise. God bless the men and women who have fought for the rights of everyone, and even those who may view the wrong people as heroes.
I hope you enjoy each edition of the McCarty Metro as much as I enjoy bringing it to you. The final thought I want to leave you with is a story
from a wife of one of our military veterans. Enjoy!

Richard, (my husband), never really talked a lot about his time in Vietnam, other than he had been shot by a sniper. However, he had a rather grainy, 8 x 10 black and white photo he had taken at a USO show of Ann
Margret with Bob Hope in the background that was one of his treasures.
A few years ago, Ann
Margret was doing a book signing at a local bookstore. Richard wanted to see if he could get her to
sign the treasured photo so he arrived at the bookstore at 12 o'clock for the 7:30 signing.
When I got there after work, the line went all the way around the bookstore, circled the parking lot, and disappeared behind a parking garage. Before her appearance, bookstore employees announced that she would sign only her book and no memorabilia would be permitted.
Richard was disappointed, but wanted to show her the photo and let her know how much those shows meant to lonely GI's so far from
home. Ann Margret came out looking as beautiful as ever and, as second in line, it was soon Richard's turn.
He presented the book for her signature and then took out the photo. When he did, there were many shouts from the employees that she would not sign it. Richard said, "I understand. I just wanted her to see it."
She took one look at the photo, tears welled up in her eyes and she said, "This is one of my gentlemen from Vietnam and I most certainly will sign his photo. I know what these men did
for their country and I always have time for 'my gentlemen.'' With that, she pulled Richard across the table and planted a big kiss on him. She then made quite a to-do about the bravery of the young men she met over the years, how much she admired them, and how much she appreciated them. There weren't too many dry eyes among those close enough to hear. She then posed for pictures and acted as if he were the only one there.
That night was a turning point for him. He walked a little straighter and, for the first time in years, was proud to have been a Vet. I'll never forget Ann
Margret for her graciousness and how much that small act of kindness meant to my husband.
Later at dinner, Richard was very quiet. When I asked if he'd like to talk about it, my big, strong husband broke down in
tears. ''That's the first time anyone ever thanked me for my time in the Army,'' he said.
I now make it a point to say 'Thank you' to every person I come across who served in our Armed Forces. Freedom does not come cheap and I am grateful for all those who have served their country.

Here's
to taking the time to thank those who served our
country,
and say an extra prayer tonight for those who gave
the ultimate sacrifice to help keep us free!
