Hello Metro readers. I hope you had a great September.

This month marks my 27th year as your editor. I want to thank all who have contributed articles, advice, or those who complimented me in this endeavor. Thanks to my brother Mike who has contributed faithfully in every edition that has been put out over the past 26 years. Also, special thanks to m'lady, who has helped me edit every issue that has been put out (otherwise there would be too many mistakes and potty jokes). All of you have helped not only in the writing of the Metro, but also in creating many great additions and features. I love all of my brothers and their significant others, and friends, and am so lucky to be able to count on them when needed.

Our NFL Pigskin Pickem Game has started. If you still want in, you can go to the Pickem Page and make your picks this week. It really is a fun way to keep the NFL games exciting to watch.

Also, please consider sending a photo or two for our Halloween challenge this month. It can be Halloween home decorations, a jack-o-lantern you carved or painted, or yourself (or kids) in costume. We just want to see what you have, and post them on our Halloween Challenge page.

Our McCarty Metro Las Vegas trip is scheduled for January 16-19. If interested, let us know. We always have a great time out in Sin City.

As for my first vacation in my retirement, Margaret and I took a 3600 mile road trip to Tennessee and Florida. Thank you to Gina and Larry for hosting us for 3 days in Mt. Juliet. You both went above and beyond to show us a good time and we appreciate it. Whether carousing around Nashville, or floating in your pool, it was a fun and relaxing 3 days and a blast just hanging out with you.

Thank you also Kristen and Steve for allowing us to stay at their place in Florida. We had a wonderful time hot tubbing and swimming in the morning, while venturing around the sunshine state each afternoon and evening. You have a beautiful place, and we really appreciate you sharing it with us.

Veterans Day is November 11, and in honor of it, I would like everyone to thank a military veteran either active or retired. Also, give thanks and say a prayer for those who are no longer with us. Those men and women are all heroes, and unfortunately, far too many will say otherwise. God bless the men and women who have fought for the rights of everyone, and even those who may view the wrong people as heroes.

Finally, thank you all for stopping by and reading. I hope you enjoy each edition of the McCarty Metro as much as I enjoy bringing it to you each month. The final thought I want to leave you with is a story about what is the actual value on our time, and how we share that with others. Enjoy!

HOW MUCH DO YOU MAKE AN HOUR?

With a timid voice and idolizing eyes, the little boy greeted his father as he returned from work, “Daddy, how much do you make an hour?” Greatly surprised, but giving his boy a glaring look, the father said: “Look, son, not even your mother knows that. Don’t bother me now, I’m tired.” “But Daddy, just tell me please!? How much do you make an hour,” the boy insisted.

The father finally giving up replied: ” Twenty dollars per hour.” “Okay, Daddy? Could you loan me ten dollars?” the boy asked. Showing restlessness and positively disturbed, the father yelled: “So that was the reason you asked how much I earn, right?? Go to sleep and don’t bother me anymore!”

It was already dark and the father was meditating on what he had said and was feeling guilty. Maybe he thought, his son wanted to buy something. Finally, trying to ease his mind, the father went to his son’s room.

“Are you asleep son?” asked the father. “No, Daddy. Why?” replied the boy partially asleep. “Here’s the money you asked for earlier,” the father said. “Thanks, Daddy!” rejoiced the son, while putting his hand under his pillow and removing some money. “Now I have enough! Now I have twenty dollars!” the boy said to his father, who was gazing at his son, confused at what his son just said. “Daddy could you sell me one hour of your time?”

Here's to wishing we all could spend another hour with our dad. Cheers!
