DATELINE: DETROIT, MICHIGAN
Austin and Hilary
took in a show at the historic Fillmore Theater in Detroit. The
act they went to see was comedian Dave Chappelle. Reports came
into the Metro that Dave Chappelle fans thought the comedian’s
dazed and confused Thursday's late performance in Detroit was half
baked at best. The usually sharp-witted Chappelle chain-smoked,
slurred his speech and shouted at hecklers as he rambled his way
through the 9:30 p.m. show at the Fillmore Detroit, according to
attendees. Austin and Hilary went to the early show and said it
was a great show. The duo provided some pictures from the evening.

DATELINE: TUESDAY
NIGHT KARAOKE
On April 7th, a
group of McCarty's including Steve, Jerry, Kelly and Mike got
together for a little night out on the town. The night began with
the group heading up to Andiamo's Restaruant for a cocktail. They
were also joined by Bob Dantzer and Kelly's wife Margaret. While
in the lounge area (as luck would have it), Brad Savage brought a
guitar, and the group provided musical entertainment for the bar
patrons, everything from Sweet Caroline to All About The Bass.
After the cocktails, they went to the Wellington for the karoake.
Hightlights of the Karaoke included Brad Savage singing Sweet
Caroline in the parking lot. Get Up Off That Thing by Kelly &
Jerry and Steve's rendition of Spill The Wine. The only thing
missing was a little drunken Elvis.... Maybe next time Larz???

Dear Editor: I was flabbergasted when I learned that I received not one, but two Dudley Awards! I wasn't prepared for this, so I'd just like to thank the Metro Academy on behalf of the others with whom I'm sharing this award
- Karen, Brad Mathers and Jim Pass. And it's a real honor knowing the stiff competition we were up against. What, the music is playing already? OK, quickly, congrats to all the other winners. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll hope to hit a couple of the Dudley Parties. What to wear?
-Mike
ED NOTE: Although
you didn't win for Mario and Rod, let me just tell ya big
fella, that the contact to damage ratio of those columns
is immense. And to answer your question... Wear the sequin
shirt and toupee. It will be a hit.

Dear Editor: I just
finished watching the Bruce Jenner interview with Diane Sawyer.
I always remember Bruce as a manly Olympic athlete. Is there
anything we possibly could have watched for over the years to
see something like this coming? -Questioning Life
ED NOTE: I wish I
could say yes. I remember the '76 Olympics as well, when he won
the gold. I also remember all of his TV and Movie appearances
which all seemed normal to me. Below is a pic from the 1980 film
"Can't Stop The Music" (cute top), and a Bob Hope Special
(I did have serious questions about Bob and Merlin about
the same time).
We always want to hear your questions, comments, rants,
or editorials.
Just submit them anytime during the month to to mccartymetro@gmail.com
for inclusion in the next issue

HOUTTEMAN, RICHARD “HOOT” aka
DICK, age 91. It is with deep and heavy sadness that we announce the death of Richard Houtteman, who passed on April 8 at Beaumont Hospital in Grosse Pointe after a brief illness. He was born in Detroit, the first born son of Richard Joseph Houtteman and Alvina (Schneider) Houtteman and they preceded him in death as well as his brother and sister, Lee John Houtteman and Audrey Depestal. Richard spent most of his life in St. Clair Shores and graduated from South Lake High School, where he first met Geraldine Violet Fuhs. She remained the love of his life through 70 years of marriage. Richard was born “German stubborn” with Belgium family values. His family was his pride and joy. He is survived by his wife, Geri; six children, Toni Houtteman, Richard “Mike” (Donna) Houtteman, Debbie (Lee) Arend, Jeff (Karen) Houtteman, Scott Houtteman, and Lee (Pam) Houtteman; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by life long friends from Michigan Bell and many dear neighbors on Culver Street. His 91.9 years on earth were spent “living within his means” as a navy pilot, milkman, Michigan Bell linesman, chief switchman and engineer, hockey coach and referee, outdoorsman, gardener, golfer, Christmas tree salesman, euchre player and lover of Mr. C’s pizza and beer. |
. |
Richard took fashion cues from no one. He could put together an entire ensemble for less than five bucks from his favorite Goodwill store. His signature look for family weddings included a pink sportscoat. Richard enjoyed a long life, surrounded by his loving family and many good buddies. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10
am on May 7 at St. Isaac Jogues Church in St. Clair Shores. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to the St. Isaac Jogues’ School technology fund or your favorite charity. Burial will take place in Grass Lake, Michigan, at a private cemetery, overlooking the Arend Tree Farm. |
ED NOTE: Dick
Houtteman is best known to our Metro family as the man who was throwing ice cream at Mike &
Karen's wedding reception in 1972.
AND FINALLY....
