Thanksgiving Day is a harvest festival celebrated primarily in the United States and Canada. Traditionally, it is a time to give thanks for the harvest and express gratitude in general. While it may have been religious in origin, Thanksgiving is now primarily identified as a secular
holiday.
In the US, Thanksgiving falls on the
4th Thursday of November. In Canada it is celebrated on the 2nd Monday in October.
The precise historical origin of the holiday is disputed. Although Americans commonly believe that the first Thanksgiving happened in 1621, at
Plimouth Plantation, in Massachusetts, there is strong evidence for earlier celebrations
by Spanish explorers in Florida (1565).
Thanksgiving Day is also celebrated in the Netherlands. A different holiday which uses the same name is celebrated at a similar time of year in the island of Grenada. |
Some personal memories of Thanksgiving
are...
Dad whipping out the mashed potatoes at the table
Stuffed celery, and all we ate was the "stuff"
Trying to get the Lions on the blackout
The big guys getting to go bowling
with Uncle Jack while I had to stay home and stuff celery with
Cream Cheese with Pimento's in it.

Spooky the Tuff Little Ghost is a fictional character that appeared in
Harvey Comics. Spooky first appeared in Casper the Friendly Ghost #10 (June 1953). He is, according to canon, the cousin of Casper, though how they are exactly related is never really clear. He is, for the most part, the spitting image of Casper, except for freckles, a derby hat, and a large, black
nose.
After several appearances in Casper the Friendly Ghost, Spooky moved to several spin off titles, including Spooky Spooktown (1961-76), Spooky Haunted House (1972-75) and Tuff Ghosts Starring Spooky (1962-72). The original ran until #161 in September, 1980. |
