On
May 2nd Megan officially graduated from Michigan State
University with a degree in computer science engineering and
a minor in security management.
Thankfully,
MSU figured out how to do in person commencement for the
graduates and two family members per student. Unlike U of M
who couldn’t get it together. What can I say? Spartans
Will. Super proud of Megan and all her achievements. She
graduated with honors. As well as being a member & chair
for the Society of Women in Engineering. She is starting her
career at Comerica Bank. Mom, Dad, and Jenna love you Meg!
HEREFORD
HIGH SCHOOL
Bob and Jean McCarty’s oldest great-grandchild graduated from Hereford High School on May 25. Sam McCarty received his diploma in a ceremony at Towson University’s SECU Arena. Proud parents Andy and Ann McCarty attended. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Sam’s proud grandparents Mike and Karen McCarty watched the afternoon ceremony on television at Andy and Ann’s home. During their visit, Mike and Karen had a good time with all the Maryland McCartys. So did Ryan and Missy’s family and Chris, who also visited. Sam works at Wegmans and plans to attend community college.
The McCarty Metro wishes Sam all the best in his future adventures.

DATELINE: GULL
LAKE 37
Following a year off because of the pandemic, Gull Lake 37
was held from May 26-28 in Augusta, Michigan. Glenn Lukas
tried to defend his 2019 championship, but was
unsuccessful, as new rules implemented by the commission
may have opened the door for the older players as well as
ones with medical exemptions (including yours truly,
although I decided to be the gentleman and hold the door
open for others).
Congratulations
to P Smurf who won all his skins on the second day to eek
out 80 something Ben (Around The Block) by one.
Below are the final results, and the odds, which was done by
the McCarty Metro.
Although the
3rd day got rained out shortening the event, it was a great
time seeing everyone. We are looking forward to next year
when hopefully we will see Tom the Tool Man who was a causality
of the Canada border closings.

HERE
WERE THE
PRE-TOURNAMENT ODDS
3-2 Glenn - As Glenn grows older, I don’t want to say he fudges his score, but I saw him once hit a hole-in-one and he scored it as a zero.
3-1 Steve - When Steve was asked what his golf handicap was, he responded “the ability to add his shots correctly on the golf course”.
3-1 Mike - Mike bought new, lighter weight clubs
this year. In fact he says he says he can
throw these clubs 40-yards further than his
old ones!
5-1 Lyle - Lyle is a very long hitter! If he hits his drive left, it’s a hook. If it goes right, it’s a slice. When he hits it straight, it’s called a freakin’ miracle!
7-1 Gary - After playing Gull Lake in 2019, Gary had to listen to the 3 most profane and obscene words constantly from Glenn. “You're still away!”
8-1 Frank - Even with a foot ailment, Frank's goal is to play in the low 80’s. If it’s any cooler than that, his foot will throb and he'll start to really suck!
10-1 John - John is playing even though his doctor told he can't. Not because of his shoulder surgery, but because of his crappy swing and horrible putting.
10-1 Bob - Bob's game is hard to figure out... One day he'll either slice or shank every shot, but on other days, he'll just go out and suck really bad.
12-1
P Smurf - Papa admits Bedford Valley is the most difficult course we play. So difficult in fact, that in 2019, he lost 2 balls in the ball washer!
15-1 Ben - The oldest player this year and amateur historian, Ben says he will be recreating his version of Civil War golf - Out in 61 and home in 65.
15-1 Mark - Last time at Gull Lake, the only 2 balls Mark hit solid all week was when he
accidentally stepped on a rake near the greenside bunker! OUCH!
20-1 Kelly - After 2 surgeries, Kelly had time to work on his game the past 3 years. His most effective shots now are his practice swing and the ‘gimme’ putt.

Dear Editor: My wife and I really admire the
relationship you have with Margaret. I try doing the
little things like complimenting her, telling her
how much I love her, opening doors, etc., but I was
wondering what your secret is to making her happy?
-Ed
ED
NOTE: I do similar things. Why just today, I decided to make sure Margaret woke up with a big smile on her face this morning. Long story short... I
am not allowed to have any Sharpies in the house anymore.
Dear Editor: I always like to have a tall glass or two of Vanilla Bourbon after working all day. Some say that might not be good for me. What do you think? Should I cut out the vanilla?
-TN Cocktail
ED
NOTE: I always make a point to cut as much
vanilla out as possible in my life! In fact, I love
drinking my bourbon or vodka with wafers, beans,
frosting, extract, or ice cream (all without the
vanilla). And I do this while listening to my
favorite music rapper Ice or watching my favorite
Tom Cruise movie Sky! (PS... I'm not real keen on
the capital of the Philippines or manila envelopes
either. They sound waaaayyyy too much alike.)

Dear Editor: I just read that Bob Barker did his own stunts in the movie Happy Gilmore. Did he really and how old was Bob at that time?
-I can hit the ball like Happy Gilmore
ED
NOTE: Good Job. Not only did Bob, who was 73
years old, do his own
stunts in the movie, but years later when
Adam Sandler visited a 90-something year old
Bob Barker in the hospital, Bob once again
performed his own stunts just like in the
movie. (see the video on the right

Dear Editor: Now that the Metro Film Project has concluded, when will Mac-O Studios receive its
1st place award? Also, is there a monetary award for the
winner? - Cousin Tony, Mac-O Studios lawyer
ED
NOTE: Sorry, no prizes in our McCarty Metro
Film Project. In fact, you are all winners
in my book! All the videos were terrific. I
hope Mike didn't have to pay you a huge
retainer.

Dear Editor: I have extreme ringing in my ears. It almost sounds like the 20-year cicadas, without the expletive deleted. I've tried drops, pills, massage, and nothing. You were in a band. Do you have ringing in the ears and if so, what do you do to control or cure it.
-Buzz Buzz F*$#@!
ED
NOTE: Yes, I have severe tinnitus
(ringing in the ears), which really can
drive me crazy, especially when I am trying
to go to sleep. However, I don't think it
was the band or disc jockey noise from the
speakers. Rather, I believe it was hydrogen peroxide
poisoning (thanks mom).
Dear Editor:
I'm a high school teacher. I was wondering how to convince my students and their parents to realize the vaccine value, so I searched for any information on that. That's how I found your page
( http://mccartymetro.com/archive/2021/february/vax.html
). First of all, thanks a lot for that starting point in my preparation for a speech with students and parents. Your page was informative, and I checked your resources to find the page with arguments I wanted to use in conversation. I expected to read a consistent and compelling story about the importance of the vaccine. Too bad, there was nothing like that.
But I didn't give up, and here's what I discovered later:
https://www.tomorrow.io/weather/blog/flu-vaccine/
(This page helped me a lot!) Would you like to add it as an additional resource?
I believe that sharing this page is a great chance to save someone's life. And thanks a lot for your work, I know many readers appreciate it too!

This month we have a great summer
dish submitted by Kristen.
Note
from Kristen: I
promise you will be transcended back to
1984.
Ingredients:
Can of refried beans
2 avocados smashed.
Mix with lime juice, cumin, & salt to taste
1 pint of sour cream (or
Greek yogurt) mixed with 1 taco seasoning pack
1 pkg shredded Colby jack
1 cup chopped iceberg lettuce
1 small container quartered cherry tomatoes
OPTIONAL: You can also add olives, jalapeños, scallions, etc.
Directions:
Each
of the ingredients above is a layer. The refried
beans can be heated a bit in a pan which makes it
easier to spread.
Serve
with some fresh tortilla chips and your favorite summertime
beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) and enjoy
this great dish!

recital. She has been dancing for more than four years. Her
favorite type of dance is ballet which she studied this year
at the dance school called "The Vibe". There are seven dancers

Cooper,
who is 8 years old, just finished his spring baseball
season. His team was called the Nationals, in which he played
all 9 positions on the field during the season. His favorite position was
pitcher. Cooper is a little bit unique in that he throws
left-handed but hits right handed. He was coached by his dad
Chris, who not only showed him baseball skills, but conditioning as
well. Cooper is looking forward to football in the fall and
baseball again next spring.

IN THE THUMB OF MICHIGAN
Being
retired, and a member of the rock band Brad Savage and the
Cockroaches, I was recently asked
through our church by a funeral director to sing at a graveside service for a homeless man. He had no family or friends, so the service was to be at a
cemetery
which was pretty far away, well north of Port Huron. As I was not familiar with the area, I got lost. Everyone that knows me knows I can be directionally challenged AND my
GPS lost its signal.
I
HATE SPRINT!!
Anyway, I finally arrived an hour late and saw that the funeral guy had evidently gone and the hearse was nowhere in sight. There were only the diggers and crew left and they were eating lunch. I felt bad and apologized to the guys for being late. I went to the side of the grave and looked down and the vault lid was already in place. I didn’t know what else to do, so I started to sing. The workers put down their lunch and began to gather around. I sang my heart and soul out for this man with no family and friends.
As I sang “Amazing Grace”, the spirit began to move and the workers began to weep. They wept, I wept, we all wept together. When I finished, I prayed a benediction and started for my car, my head hung low but my heart so FULL.
As I opened the door to my car, I overheard one of the workers say, “I’ve never seen nothin’ like that before and I’ve been putting in septic tanks for
20 years.”
Apparently, I was still lost...
