Congratulations
to Anna and Terry Lambert on the birth of their baby
girl. Lacey James Lambert was born on November 20.
Congrats also to the proud big brother Knox, and to
Grandma Gina and Grand Larry! Terry reports that Anna is
doing great, and that Lacey is just perfect and Gina
says she can't wait to hold Lacey in her arms. We at the
McCarty Metro are so happy for everyone.
DATELINE: GRAND HOTEL, MACKINAC ISLAND
Kelly &
Margaret spent 4 days on Mackinac Island. They stayed at
the Grand Hotel, which is known for their horse-drawn carriages, afternoon tea in the parlor, croquet and bocce in the tea garden, dressing up for dinner and nightly dancing to the sounds of the Grand Hotel
Orchestra, drinks in the Cupola Bar on the 5th floor, and
just sitting in a rocking chair on the world’s longest porch with
spectacular views of the Straits of Mackinac. Although the
weather was not the best, the couple had a great time. On
the way back home, they also took a detour through the
Tunnel Of Trees.

TELEVISION
Kevin,
Stephanie, Audri, and Braxton McCarty all
appeared on the Steve Wilkos show on November
10. The show was dedicated to internet viral
sensations, and Steve Wilkos took a look at some viral videos
on TikTok, along with some of the good, bad and ugly commentary that comes with them. Also, highlighting some of the digital content Steve
himself created
with his family during the pandemic.
The
McCarty family shared the fun they are having
doing the videos, along with stories of some of
the 'haters' out there. The McCartys currently
have over 1.9 million followers on TikTok and
growing. They were given 2 full segments on the
show, showing some of their videos and shared
their story with the host.

Excoriating
the presumptive nominee for his lack of action,
the mainstream national news media turned its
ire on the Biden administration Tuesday for its
failure to solve the COVID epidemic. “Hopes
were high when President-elect Biden won the
election but unfortunately at this point he has
failed to deliver on his promises to listen to
scientists and see the nation through this
challenging period,” said CNN anchor John
Berman, confirming that thus far, the Democratic
nominee had not lobbied Congress or issued any
executive actions to address rising
hospitalizations or the economic devastation
incurred by the virus. “Despite signaling that
he would make it a chief priority, Biden and his
as-yet-unnamed cabinet officials have acted like
deer in the headlights, refusing to put forward
any legislation whatsoever despite having at
least the House and, pending results, even the
Senate in their corner. It’s this type of
stalling that just adds more fuel to the fire
for Republicans who claim that Democrats get
nothing done.” Berman went on to further
condemn Biden for his failure to propose
meaningful policy solutions to the wave of all
of the Republican violence since the election
which is expected to escalate over the next few
months.

Houston
LGBTQ bar Buddy’s offered Texans a unique election
experience on Tuesday: casting ballots for the U.S.
presidential election in 14 voting booths on its dance
floor.
Buddy’s
is the first bar to serve as a voting venue in Harris
County - the largest in Texas by population - after owner
Christopher Barry proposed it to officials seeking to make
voting easier during the coronavirus pandemic. “This
is our way of trying to help our community,” said Barry,
41, who described the set-up as “Vote in the Front;
Party in the Back.”
Bar
patrons drank Dos Equis beer on the outside patio as
voters cast their ballots inside. A garage door separated
the two areas, providing the privacy and peace to vote.
“It really doesn’t feel like I’m in a voting place
at all,” said Bryan Cervantes, 36, a graphic designer
who was one of the roughly 100 voters who had voted at the
site by Tuesday afternoon. “It was super simple.”
Outside,
drag queens with the nonprofit group Joy To The Polls
danced and lip-synched to songs as part of an effort that
organizers said was geared toward increasing voter
turnout. “We’re here to bring joy to the polls,
literally,” said Athena Sapphire, 26, whose legal name
is Ervin Johnson. Bedecked in a floral jumpsuit with
bell-bottom cuffs, Sapphire roller-skated around the
bar’s parking lot.
“No
matter who people plan to vote for, we want to encourage
them to come out and vote,” Sapphire said. Harris County
Clerk Chris Hollins, 34, showed up at Buddy’s in cowboy
hat and boots to talk to voters and bar patrons. “Why
not have a polling location that people can find
easily?” said Hollins, a Democrat.
After
Harris County boosted its election budget sevenfold from
2016 to $27.7 million, Hollins tripled early-voting
locations to 120, including drive-through voting that has
been contested in courts by Republican groups and some
polling sites that are open 24/7. On Election Day, more
than 800 voting locations were open across the county,
including a funeral home, a stadium, schools, libraries
and community centers. No long lines were reported on
Tuesday anywhere in the county, which is larger than the
state of Rhode Island and has 2.5 million registered
voters.

Dear Editor: I have to admit, I really enjoyed the dog videos in this issue. Although I’m not a dog owner, these video clips made me smile, made me laugh, and filled my heart with joy. They reminded me of the time that my yellow Lab, Buddy, was sound asleep. He very loudly passed gas, which made everyone-in-the-room’s eyes burn in disgust. Buddy was awaken by the noise and his rear-end vibration. He looked at his tail, smelled his backend, and tried to run away from himself. It was a memory that still warms my heart to this day. Can we look forward to more animal videos in future issues?

Editor: Due to COVID, I am not allowed into Wal-Mart unless I wear a mask. So I tried to enter Wal-Mart wearing a hockey mask, but was told I could not enter. What gives?

both of these easy and quick appetizer recipes are sure to please everyone. Happy Holidays!

Candied Pecans (yields 6 cups)
This simple recipe for candied nuts only calls for 7 ingredients. They are perfect for topping various salads, entrees, and desserts or simply eating as a snack. And they also make a delicious gift!
Ingredients
½ cup granulated sugar
½ cup brown sugar, packed
1 Tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
4 cups (12 ounces) pecan halves, unsalted
1 egg white, whisked
Instructions
Preheat oven to 300 degrees F.
Add the granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt, and cayenne pepper to a large bowl or zip lock bag. Toss or whisk until evenly combined. Set aside.
In a separate bowl, add pecans and whisked egg white, and gently toss until pecans are evenly coated. Add in the sugar mixture and toss until combined.
Spread the nut mixture out in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet. (If your baking sheet is not large enough for a single layer, split the batch onto two baking sheets). Bake for about 40 minutes, stirring halfway through baking time, until pecans are fragrant and the sugar coating is cooked. (The sugar will harden more once the pecans are out of the oven.)
Remove from oven and place on a cooling rack until the nuts reach room temperature. Transfer them to a sealed container and store until ready to use.
Vegetable
Pizza Christmas Wreath Appetizer
Ingredients
2-3 cans Pillsbury refrigerated crescent rolls (regular size)
2 oz of cream cheese soften
3/4 cup sour cream
2-3 tbsp from a vegetable OR ranch seasoning packet
1/8-1/4 tsp garlic powder
1 large broccoli crown , chopped
¾ cucumber finely chopped
1-2 red pepper finely chopped (save the bottom & 2 strips for the Christmas “bow”
(see below)
Desired amount of mini grape tomatoes – cut in half
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375 F.
Unroll the dough & separate along the pre-cut vertical lines (NOT the diagonal lines for the individual crescent rolls). Fold these in half to double the dough.
On an ungreased cookie sheet or pizza sheet, start laying the dough down to form a circle. Press the dough down so the width of the ring is approximately 4 inches. (HINT: put an upside down bowl in the center of cookie sheet & then place the dough around it. This will help to maintain a nice even circle. Remove before baking.)
Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the crust is golden brown. The baking time will vary depending on the thickness of the dough, so be sure to check often so bottom doesn’t burn. (NOTE: if pastry is puffing up too much, poke with a fork). Remove from oven & cool completely.
In a small bowl, mix the cream cheese, sour cream and seasonings until combined and smooth. Spread evenly over the crust. Top with broccoli, cucumber, and red peppers. Press the vegetables lightly into the cream cheese. Top with tomato halves.
Use the bottom and two strips of the red pepper to make a bow.
While it can be served immediately, it’s also nice to cover with plastic wrap, refrigerate for 1-2 hours and then serve chilled.

my family! I like to play board games with my family.
My last item is a set of markers. This represents my art. I love to blend colors. Mixing yellow with blue is fun. I love to do art with my grandma.

A couple were Christmas shopping. The mall was
packed and as the wife walked around, she was surprised to discover that her husband was nowhere to be found. She was quite upset because they had a lot to do, and hence, she became so worried that she called him from her cell phone to ask him where he was.
In a quiet voice he said: "Do you remember the jewelers we went into about 5 years ago, where you fell in love with that diamond necklace that we couldn't afford, and I told you that one day I would get it for you?"
All choked up, the wife started to cry and said: "Yes honey. I do remember that shop."
The husband replied... "Well, I'm in the pub next door!"
