Another Dryer Tip When I went to dry a load of clothes, the dryer started, but it didn't heat up because the part that ignites the flame wasn't working. I tried it quite a few times, but it just didn't work. Since the dryer was about 24 years old (a Maytag, by the way), I didn't want to put any money into it and went out and purchased a new one. On the day my new dryer was to be delivered, I turned on the dryer one more time, and guess what! It worked just fine. I shut it off and tried again. Worked fine again, and again, and again. When the delivery man came with the new one, I told him what happened. It was spring time. He said that sometimes the igniter units are sensitive to humidity and that if the humidity level in my basement had been high, that might explain why the igniter didn't work. Sure enough, with the warm spring weather and the furnace not running, the basement had been getting humid. I had turned on my dehumidifier the day before the delivery, and now the dryer was working. So, if you have that problem with your dryer not heating up because the igniter isn't working, be sure that the humidity in the area of the dryer is not higher than normal before you call a repairman or run out to get a new dryer. As for me, I still kept the new dryer. I figured at 24 years old, the old one would have to go soon anyway. -Karen Septic Field Maintenance An easy way to extend the life of your septic field is to take dumps at work. -Steve-0 Free Computer Advice A co-worker got a pen stuck inside our printer. He started to try and remove the pen, but I told him we don't have time for that now, just put a note on the printer telling folks not to use and then report it to the Help Desk. So he grabbed a piece of paper and scrawled on it. I left before he finished the note. About 20 minutes later, one of my techs comes in laughing and says he was just in the lobby, saw a piece of paper on a printer and went to investigate. |
