Song o’ June
‘Blackberry Blossom’

This month, it’s a bluegrass jam favorite! Check out a jam I spotted on YouTube. I’m getting “Blackberry Blossom” in shape on my banjo. And I took my guitar recently to a traditional Irish jam, and, yes, “Blackberry Blossom” popped up there, too! It’s an addictive (in a good way) instrumental!

I can’t seem to find out how old this song is, but one story circulating on the Web is that Civil War General James Garfield heard a soldier playing his favorite ditty on a harmonica. The president-to-be couldn’t remember the name, and spat some tobacco juice onto a blackberry bush and … there you go.

FIND AN ACOUSTIC JAM NEAR YOU!

No, not a traffic jam. Find a music jam. Take your guitar, banjo, fiddle, bass, mandolin, ukulele, kazoo or whatever you play. A good website
