RESULTS - 14TH ANNUAL DAN MCCARTY GOLF CLASSIC - IMPRESSIVE
Over the years, the family has been a major contributor to the Lupus Alliance, raising nearly $250,000 for lupus services, support and research. The Lupus Alliance is the sole nonprofit source for the estimated 50,000 lupus patients in Michigan. The organizations efforts are largely dependent on revenue generated at fundraisers and the support of families like the McCarty’s.
This year with the help of several family members and the dedicated hard work of Laura Bosart we are happy to report that the 14th Annual Dan McCarty Golf Classic was a huge success. For the first time in several years the event was completely sold out a week before the event.

The day’s activities included the golf outing won by the Sidor family long time friends of the McCarty family. Raffle prizes, betting holes, a silent auction and a live auction by professional auctioneer Charles Wikens were added features of this year’s event. A presentation by Lupus board member Pamela Ayres was followed by Bob Balch’s rendition of Danny Boy which always brings tears to the crowd. Professional photographers were all over the course provided by Radiant Image Photography capturing all the great and not so great shots. Look for a slide show soon to be published.
All expectations were surpassed setting a new record raising $35,808 for the day. After the expenses of nearly $12,000 for golf & luncheon fees are taken out nearly $24,000 was donated to the Lupus Alliance of America Michigan Indiana Affiliate.
Many people never knew Dan suffered from lupus. The family saw the challenging times for Danny. He endured a Kidney transplant and hip replacement at 32 years old due to bone deterioration from the meds and his relapses. The funds raised go to helping to find a cure and help people in need in our community. It is a comfort to know that his spirit is alive and burns bright in the many people that Dan touched.
Next year will mark the 15th year of the DMGC. Plans are already underway to host the biggest event ever. The goal is to sell out the entire golf course adding 18 more teams for a total of 216 golfers filling all 27 holes on the course. Mark your calendars for Saturday, June 5, 2010 as you won’t want to miss this celebration!

Thank you
for joining us and being part of our celebration of DJ's
life. Not a day goes by that I do not think about my
brother. He was truly a great man, son, and brother.
Losing
someone close makes you appreciate the small things in
life too. I sometimes feel sorry that he is not here to
enjoy them with me. Whether it is a Red Wings playoff
game, a good time golf scramble, a bad joke, you name it,
I am saddened I can't share it with him. Things like that
make me glad that I have a lot of great memories with DJ.
He coached my baseball team growing up, he helped me in
college, and he mentored me in business. He made me laugh,
he made me think, and he helped make me who I am today.
I guess
this is just a reminder to spend some real time with those
that are important to you, enjoy the small stuff, tell
them thank you for being part of your life, and share a
bad joke with them. Someday you may look back on those
tiny moments, and they will become some of your most
enjoyable, endearing memories.
