  • DATELINE: ROCHESTER, MICHIGAN
McCarty Metro subscriber and cousin, Larry Wendt, has opened up a new men's salon in Rochester, Michigan. Say's Larry, "We’ve all been there, sitting in a waiting room of one of the cheap hair cut franchises dodging legos & crayons, trying to distract ourselves by flipping through the pages of Ladies Home Journal. Seriously, men deserve a place to call their own. Playmakers is a hair salon that is designed for men. We’re out to create an environment that is comfortable and casual, but also offers the services of a high end salon. Our stylists are passionate about quality, service, and your experience. We offer various packages and of course we have gift certificates. We also have 50" plasmas, hot stylists, and everything for men (basic hair cuts, manicures, bald men treatments, waxing, and massage).

Playmakers is located right on Walton Blvd. next to Whole Foods. Next time you need your cabbage trimmed, check it out. Drop Larry Wendt's name and get $5 off the Playmaker cut. Do it for yourself. Do it for the man in your life." Playmakers is the "official" clip joint of The McCarty Metro. Come check out our new location In Rochester. 1414 Walton Blvd. Rochester, MI (248) 651-9711, or visit the website at http://www.playmakershaircuts.com

DETROIT TIGERS

After a dismal beginning to the season where the Tigers dropped their first 7 games, the ownership wanted to reinvigorate the fan base by offering a new logo for the team.

METRO EDITORIAL

ROD ALLEN'S NEW WORD: THEREFORE
by Mike McCarty

Yes, the Tigers are back along with motormouths Rod Allen and Mario Impenba. And yes, Mario the TV play-by-playman and his TV sidekick Rod still think they are on radio and, therefore, have to fill up any dead air. Which brings us to Rod's new word for the year: "Therefore."

"Therefore" helps Rod's long-winded explanations get even windier. For example, here's a pretty close re-creation of some exchanges during a Tigers-Blue Jays game in April:

MARIO: "That's another hit by Rios, and the Blue Jays have two men aboard against Bonderman."
ROD: "I've noticed that several of these Blue Jays hitters have the same trigger mechanism when they're hitting. They like to pick up their front foot and put it right back down instead of striding toward the pitcher. You don't see that very often. And then to see this same trigger mechanism in a lot on this team tells me that perhaps the hitting coach is teaching this."
MARIO: "No question that's not seen very often. Is there an advantage to doing it this way?"
ROD: "Well, they might feel that you're not moving your body as much; therefore, your head will not move as much; therefore your eyes are seeing the ball better and you increase your chances of having a quality at-bat."

With Rod Allen filling the role of DD (designated driveler), therefore it is important that Mario Impemba establishes his own identity. This year, Mario is Master of the Obvious. For example, from the same game, when Toronto's Vernon Wells was at bat:

ROD: "I saw Vernon Wells' dad in spring training in Arizona."
MARIO: "His father's name is Vernon, also, isn't it?"
ROD: "Yes."
MARIO: "Vernon Sr., obviously."
ROD: "Yes, and he has a very young body."

Rod, this is TMI. I don't want to know how you saw Mr. Wells Sr.'s body.

  • ALWAYS IN OUR HEARTS...
Friend and Bloomfield Hills Police Officer Gary Davis was killed in an automobile accident while transporting a prisoner back to the police station 4 years ago this month at 3am on May 13, 2004. He had just arrested the driver, suspected of DUI on I-75 and was turning around through a median when his patrol car was struck by a car driven by a drunk driver. Gary was killed in the accident. His prisoner and the other drunk driver were seriously injured. The suspect, who has a previous drunk driving conviction, was charged with second degree murder, drunken driving causing death to emergency personnel, failing to use care while passing a stationary emergency vehicle causing death, and drunken driving causing serious injury. On October 6, 2005, the suspect was acquitted of the murder charged but convicted of two misdemeanor charges. Officer Gary Davis had served with the Bloomfield Township Police Department for 12 years. He is survived by his wife Nicki a Waterford police officer, who sends us photos of his final resting place.
