CHRISTMAS 2007

DID YA KNOW...

When the producers of the "Beverly Hillbillies" refused to allow the "Hillbilly" sounding voice of Lester Flatt for the theme song, Jed Clampett, it broke the heart of most Bluegrassers at the time. Jerry Scoggins did it because Lester couldn't be available to do the "sponsor of the week" bits for each episode, and Jerry, living in LA, could.

Howdy Mike, What’s the average age of folks who play in bluegrass jams? -- Just Wonderin’ in Baghdad
Hi Just Wonderin’, Shucks, your question got me to wonderin’, too. I don’t rightly know, because the ages are all over the place. I just saw a really good teenage banjo player up north, and a guitar player in his 70s. Bluegrass is catchy in playing and listening. The audience’s ages are all over the place, too. For instance, check out my audience at a morning jam in Maryland (below keft). --Mike

Hi Mike, Will you be coming out to visit so we can pick and sing? -- Strumming in L.A.
Hi Strumming, Maybe springtime. I’m practicing, pickin’ and singin’, so we can repeat our triumphs. (below.) --Mike
